Dear Speedy,

The maximum speed of our system depends a lot on the quality of the OPC server you plan to connect us to. For some OPC servers, the maximum reliable speed might be 50 milliseconds while others might be 250 milliseconds. For some servers with a limited number of tags it might go all the way down to 30 milliseconds for short bursts of data.  Other questions that will need answered are the total number of tags, the number of high speed tags (less than 500 milliseconds), and how often those tags log (are the continuous or do they log in bursts).

If you plan to log hundreds of thousands of tags and the majority are changing four times per second (250 milliseconds), that is probably not realistic unless everything has been configured perfectly with some very high-end hardware; although I doubt that is what you want to do.  Perhaps a call with one of our engineers should be scheduled to discuss this particular project?

One final note. From a performance stand point, I am confident in saying that if Pi can log the data, we definitely can and probably on lower-end hardware.

Sincerely,
Gary Stern
