Axiom: Calculated Trending

May 12, 2016 5:21:00 PM / by Jeff Knepper

Canary's trend analysis software AxiomTrend not only allows you to visualize the process data from your data historian, but also to create calculated trends.  Running calculated trends is extremely quick and easy.

Once you have launched AxiomTrend, simply load a trend or two by right clicking, selecting "Add Trend(s)" and select the data points you wish to chart.  Once complete, you will see a new trend chart with all selected data points.  To begin your first calculated trend, again, right click and select "Add Calculation Trend".

A new window will appear entitled "Calculated Trend".  First name your new calculated trend, then you can begin to construct your calculation.  You have many options when writing an equation.  If you would like, you may use any data points that are currently hosted on your trend chart in your calculated trend.  These can be combined with other points, or any of the preset math functions that are labeled below.  You are not limited on the length of the formula, it can be as complex or as simple as needed.  Some users have written custom equations that are over 200 characters long.  In doing so, they have been able to isolate important variables in their process efficiency and discover major cost savings in their process.
Once finished, simply click "OK" and your new calculated trend will load onto your chart.  The chart is now ready for you to use.  Your new calculated trend will appear at the bottom.  Often users will band this new trend with another.  This can be done easily, watch this video for a reference.
The calculated trend feature allows your process data trending to move from a traditional operational historian trend solution to a unique product that offers trending analytics and real trending solutions.  Best of all, the software is extremely easy to learn and simple to implement.
